So bad trader tells me he will come down to get he lambs when he isn't so busy. He was very short and curt He also said something about butchering them and that I should do it. I told him that wasn't part of the deal.
Bad trader showed up Yesterday to get the lambs. Yes 1 month later; then Bad Trader has the guts to come back later and tell me the lambs were lean . I was so mad. I reminded him about him being rude to me 1 month ago when he should have taken the lambs and when they probally were fatter because they were on pasture eating all day long. He told me that maybe I could make it up by giving him some of my meat chickens in the spring. I told him that lamb costs more than turkey does by a long shot. He still made good on the deal. Bad trader got angry and walked away.
I might add that this is the second deal Bad Trader screwed me on. The other had to do with him giving and delivering lime in exchange for us providing a petting zoo .. Wound up costing me $50 to hire the girl who helps me and me having to go and get the lime 9 months later.
Note to self ...no more deals with Bad trader
Yes, I was once from Queens, New York!
Sure my dream has always been to live on a farm. Doesn't every child want exactly what they dont have. Now I have it, live it and love it. Bet you dont know the difference between a hen, chick, rooster, chicken or poullet. Follow my blog...we'll learn together.

A Bad Trader
A few months ago a neighbor stopped by and asked me what we do with our lambs. I told him we use them for the petting zoo then sell them in the fall. He then wondered if I would be willing to trade the lambs for turkeys at Thanksgiving. I asked how many and he said his turkeys were about 30 lbs each so 4 turkeys for 2 lambs. Ok sounds good to me. Figured I would give one to another neighbor who gives us loads of bread for our chickens and another to some other friends who give us fresh veggies from their garden. We trade to those folks for fresh eggs but because of a very hungry fox we were a little light on our end of the bargains this summer, so I thought this would be a nice to make up for it. Even though no one e Ever expected us to make anything up.
Fast forward. The week before Thanksgiving. I get a call to get the turkeys. I go and get them and then go out with the family to surprise our other neighbors. I only see the Bad Traders wife so I tell her to send her husband down for the lambs when he gets a chance. I did say this was a week BEFORE Thanksgiving right?
So 1 month ago I see the Bad Trader and ask him when he is coming for the lambs. Mind you I am paying for their feed and their mothers won't be bred until they don't have a baby at their side so this is now holding me up and putting me out. Also. I never have troubles selling my lambs. To be continued...

And so this began
After speaking with an old friend from the city on the telephone she remarked that I should write a book about my crazy experiences here on the farm and then she said I should at least blog. Hmmm blog. Heard of it. Even read a few, so I figured why not. How many women go from Queens NY to living on a farm. Happily I might add; well at least most days.
This whole conversation began with "Well, what did Santa bring this year?". Now to really understand and appreciate this question you have to first understand who it came from
My friend Lisa and I met back in the early 90s in a very poor public school in Queens. We both were hard workers and both loved teaching 4th grade. Lisa excels at anything she does and if not works hard to get it. Lisa landed a job in Great Neck Long Island. She also lives there too. It is where the richest of the rich live in our old immediate area so when I told Lisa new cowboy boots she just had to laugh. I couldn't even go on how they were Justin Gypsy rounded toes. She just could never appreciate it. I love them. So much so they are my second pair of the exact same pair. My old ones I have just put my Yak trax on and will use them in the snow around the farm. Yes Yak trax. A must have. Google it. You’ll be pay-paling it in minutes. See still NY.
Well to add to my conversation I had to add that Livi got a BB gun and target set. She was laughing so hard I couldn't bear to tell Lisa about her cute camo jacket.
